I
got a contribution for my blog this evening from one of the most talented poets I know,
Engineer Bash Amuneni, He is an architect as well as a seasoned Banker. He
writes from Jos,Plateau State and
this is a wonderful piece that seems not to be ready to take any questions
.Enjoy it
Please don't ask me why!
Just because 'Y'
has two branches and a tail
doesn't make it a mutant-lame
Get these scales off your
mind's eyes
and you would see
It's was a lizard
hanging on a tree
Please don't ask me why
Why 9ja's conscience
is perpetually questioned
by the splitting lines of
this letter
that loafs fractionally last
@ d bottom of the
alphabetical scale!
Please don't ask me why
But,this also gives me hope
that 9ja no go carry last
like 'Zed' for Zimbabwe
I heard bread sells for
A billion Z-dollars yea!
Please don't ask me why
Why we must not fail
Though it sounds dated and
stale
Like hope really frail
But see, it's hope anyways
remember the mustard tale?
Please don't ask me why
Why I ' m still this hopeful
when we are being ruled by a
bunch of ninjas...sorry demons
Political 'oops' even darker
@ heart than those 'boko' crooks
'Harraming' the nation
in an anti-western course
albeit using pro-western toys
Please don't ask me why
Why empty vessels
Make the loudest noise
You can ask the wailing
sirens
of that governor's convoy
On that cheap road
that leads to your house
if you have got one!
Please don't ask me why
Why our only definition of a
revolution
ends on these roads and
squares
@ inner city junctions
Where 9ja men in shallow
aunction
Attempts 2 out-wit there
fellow men
In a race 2 get there first
Like we are really so
impatient
And I wish we where just as
half-impatient
With all the government's
mess!
Please don't ask me why
Why the only thing that
re-sounds our reason for doing is ego or better still 'eego'
Like that self-styled minnow
Who thinks he's deceived the
people
Now hides in the shady shadows
of his own evil!
Do you see a reason
for the heavy tint
on his vehicles?
Please don't ask me why!
Why the hunch-back did drown
even with its primordial
gourd
But I know that
when crude becomes god
civilisation is banish from
the land
and men feast on men-proud!
Please don't ask me why!
why sometimes our actions
hitherto
suggests this refrain for a
motto
Nigeria-'anything is possible
oh'
Like Dana,Cynthia and Aluu 4!
that year,same year-damn
cold!
Please don't ask me why
Why @ this point
My lines pale in weakened
resignation
Like I am sick in mild
palpitation
But a wise man ones told
me-yes
That a word is enough
for the wise and blessed
as these verses will choke
the less
Provoke what they say is
in-vogue
And maybe u may not ride
a Range Rover e-vogue
It doesn't make u less
blessed of a man you know
Please don't ask me why
Why there is always a light
@ the end of every tunnel
But truth be told
We are only here for a moment
So own it and live it
Cos only God can define your
true worth!
Please now ask me why...
