As we drove past the 3rd mainland bridge yesterday just about noon time,i observed the traffic that was building up close the middle of the bridge,it didn't take long to find out that a vehicle had plunged into the lagoon and there were several people gathered already at about the point where it happened. Our vehicle approached the spot and observed signs that an accident had occurred, the emergency police/ambulance post had been shifted to one corner and there were pieces of metal that looked like parts of a vehicle. For the sake of alerting people of the disaster i quickly took a picture of whatever i could capture and put it up on my blackberry Display picture and a message to alert my contacts ,not so long after i saw better photos pop on several other "DP's" they must have been from taken those who stood by the bridge and could a better view of the water, none showed the vehicle or survivors but local divers on their canoes and a little white boat.
Different questions starts to pop up,what happened?...how manage?what kind of vehicle was it?..are there any survivors?...are there no provisions for such accidents on the bridge and so on.We didn't wait because i was on my way out of the city,we only prayed that some good news will pop later and asked the driver to please take it easy because of the uncertainties that trails every vehicle travelling on the Nigerian highways.different risk varies from not so well serviced vehicles to inexperienced drivers, over-speeding,drunk driving, pot holes and the worst of all is the poor emergency or rescue services provided by the authorities and so on.At a point one starts to wonder....whats going with this 2013 of a year by the way??
